Chapter 1: The Dreaming Link

Link stood at the center of Hyrule Field, sword ready and shield out. There were a bunch Skullchildren sneaking into Karkariko at night and the noble knight's of Hyrule were asked to stand at random posts in the field. Skullchildren weren't much trouble, but when repeated attacks like the ones occuring in Karkariko, then something "must be done." The sun setted and Link rose his sword. He remambered the first time he encountered Skullchildren.

He was unarmed and the skullchildren rose out of the ground. Link was young and clueless, and wanted to make friends with the Skullchildren. He walked up to one and held out his hand. The Skullchild he had tried to greet hit him with shocking force. Link screamed and ran back to Hyrule Castle. On the way, he encountered several other Skullchildren, which skipped sideways around. Outside Hyrule Castle, Link ran into his father's arms, who was on guard duty that night. His father chuckled and said," Now you why you should stay in the castle at night, Link."

Link chuckled at his past experience, and now that he was Hyrule's knight of legend, he had more experience with monsters, one such as Skullchildren. The moon rose in the sky, and a wolf howled in the distance. Skullchildren rose up from the ground all around him like weeds. "Kaitegiri!" Link yelled, showing off his spinning slash. The skull children backed off and moaned as they fell back to the ground.

"Yeah, that's right!" Link sang as he danced around in a circle. "Bow down before me and beg for the mercy of Link, the Knight of Hyrule!"

"Oh, I will alright," said a familiar voice behind him. Link turned swiftly, expecting a Stalfo. But no, it was his own father.

"Link, you are so full of yourself," his father said, trying with much determination to hold back a laugh. Link rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet with his hands behind his back.

"You know, Father," Link started, "I am a knight of Hyrule and a lower being of status like you wouldn't embarrass me, would you?"

"Well, in being a knight of Hyrule, you are also my son, and I believe it's a father's job to make his son's life diffcult, am I correct?"

"Darn you always get the better of me!" Link laughed.

On the way to Karkariko, Father wen't on and on about their ancesters, which were really interesting bed time stories, but Link didn't feel like listening to them. As the sun rose in the sky, Link looked down, and saw his shadow. Then Link began to cry.

"I miss Shadow," he sobbed.

"No reason to miss your shadow, son, it's right in front of you!" Link's father laughed.

Link looked up at his father and asked, "Do you remember the fearsom shadow that attacked Hyrule Castle last year?"

"Clear as Lake Hylia," his father replied.

"That was my shadow. But don't judge him; he did a very good thing in the end," Link smiled.

"Oh, really," his father looked down on him. "What did he do?"

"He. . . he broke the Dark Mirror," Link choked. Clearly, this conversacion was making him cry.

"Oh, that is a good deed," Link's father finished.

In Karkariko, the villagers gathered around the entrance. They waited, holding their breath, for the news of wether the Hyrule knights were successful or not. Then, over the hill, a tall knight and a boy clothed in green appeared. The crowd tensed. The knight and boy approached the leader of Karkariko.

The knight smiled and said, "We have completed our task successfully." The crowd cheered and jumped in delight. Their village was saved. The rest of the knights appeared over the hill and heard the cries of satisfaction. They smiled and ran to the crying villagers. Link turned his head to the knights running behind him. He smiled at the proud knights and turned his head back to face Karkariko. Then he turned completely around, back to Hyrule Castle, and seek his soft, warm bed.

Link was looking at three identical faces. He recognised the faces as Red's, Blue's, and Vio's. He smiled and said, "Where have you guys been?" But then, they disappeared.

In their place was a girl. She wore a black tunic and black bell bottoms underneath. She wore a gold belt outside her tunic, around her
waist. It gradually widened as it got toward the center, and there was a Lapiz Lazuli, the stone of fortune. She wore another belt, this time leather, and it slanted down one side. At the lowest point, a sword and scabbard were equiped.

She had a heart-shaped face. Her eyes were violet in color. she had a small nose and a smile carved on her lips. Her hair has darkest brown, and she pointed ears. But, there was something about her appearence that was different.

Black wolf's ears stood on top of her head and moved to her expressions. She had a black wolf's tail that wagged at her enthusiasm.

"I am Wolfa," she said. "What is your name?"
Link did not reply. He was afraid she was an enemy.

As though sensing his worry, she unbuckled her leather belt, leaving her disarmed. "What is your name, knight of Hyrule?" she asked again.

Link replied, feeling more secure now that the stranger had unequiped her only weapon, "I am Link."

The stranger, Wolfa, nodded, and disappeared.

Link woke with a start. As if he knew what he must do, he slung his shoulder strap on, buckled his belt, put on his hat, and slipped on his boots. He equiped his sword and shield to his shoulder strap. Link ran from his room the front door. He opened the wide double door and stared upon the market. Silently, without even stirring a mouse, he ran through the market, and to the Four Sword Shrine.
