Chapter 1: Old Market, new face

"Link!" shouted Malon who, as usual, was trying in vain to get her friend and work partner out of bed. "Honestly! He's never ready for anything but a vacation...LINK! Get down here now, or I'll make sure that you clean the stables tonight!" It was at that time (after the random thuds and angry cuckoo squacks from inside the house)that Link at last came barging out of the door, apparently dressed so quickly that it looked as if he was chased around the ranch. His little entrance was not without comedic flair though, and before Link's feet had touched the grass outside, his face did first.

"That's a new record, Link." Malon giggled with rolling eyes, quickly helping Link to his feet. "Wonderful..." he sarcastically groaned, wiping off any grass or dirt that was obviously on him. "So, what's the scedule say for today?" he asked. "Well..." Malon began "Today, we just need to go down to the market for some things, and the deliveries to the Hyrule castle are due today too. That's it for the morning..." Link gave a few nods in between Malon's explanation, jotting down the objectives in his head. "So we get to take the storage cart into the castle again?" he asked excitedley. "Ill do that on my own." she replied, her fingertips pointing to her chest. "You're in charge of the shopping today."

Link's face changed instantly to a frown of disappointment and said, "But you always get to take the deliveries to the castle on your own..."

"That's because my dad knows that I never move on my own slow pace. Sorry, Link. It ain't my choice."

"Fine, fine..." sighed Link. "Do you know what's after all that?"

"Nothing so far. Dad just wants us to make our delivery, and to buy some things." Malon said. Adjusting the fitting of her clothing, she quickly exhaled with a small, bright smile. "So Link, you ready to go?" she asked. "Sure thing!" he replied.

"Okay then. The cart's all set up right outside, c'mon."

-PT. 2-
Some four to five minutes later, Link and Malon were at last heading to the town market. Both seated in the cart, Link sat at the far edge, looking out at the beutiful grasslands along the plains of Hyrule. Link took modest pride in knowing that it was thanks to him that he, along with all the other good inhabitants of Hyrule, were blessed to live another day in such a wonderous kingdom. "Hey, Malon...what exactly is it that we've gotta buy?" he asked, in an attempt not to get too drowzy from the simple peace and quiet of the Hyrule fields.

"Well, you know...anything that's needed when you're living in such a successful ranch. In other words, whatever will empty our wallets..." They both shared a quick laugh, but the mood of the atmosphere changed quickly when they finally remembered judt what that meant considering their jobs as ranch-hands. As the misutes slowly passed by, Link began to feel the rolling of the wheels under the cart cease, and noticed Malon halting the horses that supported it. They were at the bridge that lead to the entrance, which was open as usual during the day. "Here we are, Link." Malon said, looking in his direction. "Yup...so then. How's about I let you get to the castle? I'll meet you back here when I'm done." Link said, hopping off the side of the cart.

"Sure. Also, here..." Malon tossed Link a small brown rupee wallet filled up until it were in the shape of a perfect ball. "That should be able to cover it all along with your own money." she said. "Anyways, don't waste it, okay? I'll see you soon." And with a quick wave of her hand, she motioned for the horses to proceed forward. As soon as Malon was out of sight, Link walked across the bridge to the market, his mind mostly occupied on the amount of rupees he had now. "There's way more than enough here now. Maybe if the Bazaar still has that sword, I could--" Link's thoughts were soon stopped in mid-sentence, for he felt a force hit his body, resulting in a quick stumble. Looking up after regaining his ground, he noticed he had just walked into another person. "uh...sorry about that..." Link said, in an awkward tone, finally taking the time to look at who it was; an absolute stranger apparetly of his age, height, and gender. "Not a problem..." the young man said, with apparently no care for what had happened, and soon resumed ahead, passing by the right of Link. Though it was a very brief run-in, what Link easily noticed most was his upper wardrobe; a silver-gray sleeveless robe like vest with a thick black sash tied around his waist, which held up an exquisite leather-like covering that was the same silverish color as his shirt. Other than that, there was his short, black hair, and his tannish skin. Link stood still for several minutes pondering about such an unusual fashion, but finally snapped out of his little trance and went back to his assignment. "No need to get so worked up..." he whispered to himself. "...he was just a stanger..."

Koroks Rock says:

A very good, exceptionally realistic approach to the OoT afterstory. The dynamics are very good, and I can't stress how realistic this feels.

Lunar6 says:

heh, thanx. You can find chapter five at Zeldapower.com (but it's kind a corny compared to my more earlier chapters).
